THE MAKING OF AN ICON
THE CREATION OF AN ESPADRILLE IS A STORY OF AUTHENTICITY,
WHERE TIMELESSNESS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP ARE ITS ESSENCE. DISCOVER HOW THE
MANUFACTURE OF THE ESPADRILLE HAS HARDLY CHANGED OVER THE LAST 90 YEARS.
1. MADEJADO
WE TRAVEL THROUGH INDIA AND BANGLADESH TO DISCOVER THE BEST QUALITY JUTE. THE PRODUCTION OF 100% NATURAL JUTE HANKS AND THEIR SUBSEQUENT DYEING. IS THE BEGINNING OF THIS ADVENTURE, THE BASIS FOR MAKING THE SOLES OF ALL OUR MODELS.
2. BRAIDING
CASTAÑER'S HERITAGE, ITS LEGACY, ALWAYS PRESENT. THE JUTE BRAIDING MACHINES ARE THE SAME ONES THAT WERE INVENTED IN THE CASTAÑER ATELIER
ALMOST A HUNDRED YEARS AGO.
THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR A UNIQUE, HANDCRAFTED BRAIDING TECHNIQUE.
3. URDIDO
THE ESPADRILLE REVEALS ITS ICONIC SHAPE. THE SOLE IS WORKED ON A WHEEL-SHAPED TABLE THAT SERVES AS A MOULD FOR THE JUTE BRAID. THIS SHAPE IS THE ORIGIN OF THE ORIGINAL ESPADRILLE.
4. STITCHING OF THE SOLE
THERE IS ONLY ONE MACHINE IN THE WORLD THAT SEWS JUTE BRAID LIKE THIS. IT WAS DEVISED AND CREATED BY TOMÁS SERRA, MECHANIC AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE BRAND. TODAY, IT IS STILL ONE OF THE GREAT TREASURES OF THIS ATELIER.
5. TROQUELING
THE DIE-CUT OF EACH RUBBER DIFFERS ACCORDING TO THE MODEL OR THE NUMBER. LATER, THE DIE-CUT IS GLUED TO THE SOLE TO MAKE IT MORE CONSISTENT. ESPADRILLES THAT ARE PART OF THE HISTORY OF MANY SUMMERS.
6. VULCANIZING
ALWAYS IN SEARCH OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY. THE VULCANISING PROCESS FIXES
THE BRAIDED SOLE AND THE DIE-CUT RUBBER PERFECTLY AND WITHOUT ANY FISSURE, THROUGH MOULDS EXPOSED TO TEMPERATURES OF 150º.
7. TALONERA
DETAILS THAT INSPIRE STYLE, SIMPLICITY AND CLASS. THE HEEL COUNTER IS A UNIQUE DETAIL IN THE MOST ICONIC MODELS. MADE WITH TOP QUALITY LINEN AND COTTON YARNS, ON ANTIQUE LOOMS FROM 1900 FULL OF HISTORY.
8. STITCHED
TODAY, MANY OF THE MODELS ARE STILL SEWN BY HAND AS THEY WERE 90 YEARS AGO.
